Effie Schuitema

was the daughter of Bert and Aurelia Schuitema.  She married Tiemen Jager.

“Effie was my ‘Grandma in Jenison’, although in reality she was my Great Grandma.  I remember going to her house and picking grapes by the back fence and eating them until we got a stomach ache.  They were Concord grapes with big seeds.  The railroad tracks ran across the back of her house.  She had a patch of mint growing by her back door.  Her bed was so high, you needed a step stool to climb into it.  She made the best date pinwheel cookies (click link for recipe) and gave them to the families at Christmas-time.”  ~ Susan Jager Straw
