Robert Van Voorhis

JEROME – Robert Van Voorhis, 72, of Jerome, died Wednesday (April 2, 1997) in the Hillsdale Community Health Center.

Mr. Van Voorhis was born May 8, 1924, in Coleman, to Orson and Emma (Carpenter) Van Voorhis. He was a retired press operator with Martin Marietta, Adrian, and served in WWII in the U.S. Navy. He had lived in Jerome since 1954.

He married Jeanette Mason in 1953 and she survives. Also surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Norman Andrews, Antioch, Calif.; Susan and David Freed, Cabool, Mo.; and Janet Good, Jackson; four sons and daughters-in-laws, Robert of Jackson; James and Deborah of Reading; David and Diane of Jonesville; and Jeff of Jerome; 16 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna Bradford of Grand Rapids; and one brother Richard of Montgomery. He was preceded in death by four sisters and one grandchild.

The funeral is 3 p.m. Sunday at the Kurtz-Towns Funeral Home, North Adams, with the Rev. Tom Hammond officiating. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Northlawn Cemetery.
